SUMMARY:Australian Childhood Foundation - Supporting Children and Young People to Heal from the Trauma of Family Violence
DESCRIPTION:Supporting Children and Young People to Heal from the Trauma of Family Violence\n20 March 2024  10:00 am – 02:00 pm Virtual Classroom $165.00 \nWhat is this training about?\nChildren and young people do not escape family violence unaffected.  It destabilises the foundations of their development and undermines the strengths of their relationships which can overwhelm them. Children experience family violence deep in their mind and body – they see it\, often hear it and their bodies react to it as a threat to their survival.\nThis workshop explores all of these elements and supports practitioners to work in a child focused and relationally reparative context with parents and children following experiences of family violence. \nRegister

SUMMARY:AIFS - How developmental evaluation can be used to develop and adapt social services programs
DESCRIPTION:Presenters: Sandra Opoku (Relationships Australia Victoria) and Jessica Smart (AIFS)\nDate & time: Wednesday 13 March 2024\, 1:00 – 1:30PM (AEDT). Find your time zone \nRegister here \nEvaluation is quickly becoming a necessary part of service delivery and decision making in child and family services. Traditional forms of evaluation can take a long time to produce the results needed to enhance service delivery. In contrast\, developmental evaluation involves learning as you go\, meaning evaluators can test new approaches\, track program implementation and design initiatives that are responsive to context and need. This makes developmental evaluation useful for providers working in dynamic environments that require responsive interventions. \nThis webinar will explore how Relationships Australia Victoria used developmental evaluation to adapt their Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) to online delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nRelationships Australia Victoria’s Lead Evaluator\, Sandra Opoku\, will discuss how and why she used developmental evaluation with the MBCP\, the results of the evaluation and what she learned along the way.\nThis webinar will give you: \n\nan understanding of how to design and implement a developmental evaluation\ninsight into what evidence a developmental evaluation can generate\nan understanding of what developmental evaluation can and can’t be used for.\n\nThis webinar will be of interest to practitioners\, managers and evaluators working in child and family services.\nPlease note: This pre-recorded interview runs for 30-minutes. There will be no live facilitation or audience questions.

SUMMARY:AIFS and Emerging Minds- Supporting family and child mental health in the face of severe weather events and disasters
DESCRIPTION:Presenters: Bron Sparkes\, Dr Andrea Baldwin\, Sarah Eagland and Ben Rogers \nPartner: Emerging Minds \nDate & time: Wednesday 28 February 2024\, 1:00 – 2:00PM (AEDT). Find your time zone.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe number of severe weather events and disasters has increased significantly in recent decades. These events are lasting longer and having a greater impact with many families experiencing multiple disasters one after the other or even at the same time. \nWith a growing number of Australians faced with disasters\, there is also growing awareness that these events significantly impact the emotional wellbeing of infants and children. However\, there has been little exploration of how family structures and dynamics affect children’s recovery from these events. \nIn the face of extreme weather events and disasters\, parents and caregivers can play a major role in keeping infants and children physically safe and emotionally well. But these events affect every member of the family\, and the family unit as a whole. Caring for infant and child mental health requires effective support for families. \nSome parents and caregivers say going through these events has brought the family closer together and strengthened their relationships. At the same time\, this journey can be extremely challenging. Recovery can bring grief\, anger and worry for parents and children. Often families must relocate or rebuild\, change social circles\, navigate multiple services and manage financial stressors\, all of which can put further strain on family relationships. Research shows that families who’ve gone through a disaster are more likely to experience parental separation\, family violence and substance misuse\, which can further impact child wellbeing. \nThis webinar will explore the complex interplay of factors that can support or disrupt the wellbeing of whole families following a severe weather event or disaster\, and how these factors in turn affect infant and child mental health. From practice and lived-experience perspectives\, the panellists will discuss evidence-informed approaches of how best to support children and families in the weeks\, months and years following these events. \nThis webinar will help you: \n\nrecognise the factors that affect the mental health and emotional wellbeing of infants\, children and families following a disaster\n\n\nunderstand the role of the family unit in supporting the recovery of infants and children after a disaster\n\n\ndevelop awareness of family-focused approaches – including practices within the education context – that can support infants\, children\, parents\, caregivers and the whole family unit after a disaster.\n\nThis webinar will interest practitioners working in health\, social and community services who have contact with children and families who have experienced a severe weather event or disaster or may experience one in the future. \nWhile you will begiven a chance to ask questions during the webinar\, we encourage you to send through questions in advance in the registration form. \nThis webinar is co-produced by CFCA and Emerging Minds in a series focusing on children’s mental health. They are working together as part of the Emerging Minds: National Workforce Centre for Child Mental Health\, which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care under the National Support for Child and Youth Mental Health Program.\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Australian Childhood Foundation Professional Community - Understanding the Neurobiology of Complex Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Building a framework for effective practice with children\, young people and their network of relationships\n26 & 27 February 10:00am to 2:00pm  VIrtual Classroom  $330.00 \nWhat is this training about?\n This workshop provides a foundational understanding of complex developmental trauma and the application of this knowledge framework to work across multiple contexts supporting infants\, children\, young people\, and families.  It is grounded in the most recent evidence from neuroscience. \nAbuse related trauma has a significant impact on the developing brain. It can result in children experiencing significant difficulties regulating their emotions\, adapting their behaviour and being attuned to social exchanges. This can lead to a fundamental challenge for children to experience safety and engage in relational exchanges that support them.  Integrating systems of protection\, care\, and therapeutic intervention provide traumatised children with safety\, predictability and the platform for changing their developmental trajectory. \nThe workshop explores the implications for framing trauma informed practice and provides specific and practical strategies for promoting recovery for children and young people who have experienced relationally based trauma. \n\n\n\nRegister
